I don’t put effort into Redbubble, and fair enough, I make a minuscule amount of money from sales. It seems they’re hoping to no longer follow the business model of providing a service for creators and taking their cut, but rather the one where creators work for them, yet aren’t considered employees and thus don’t need to be fairly compensated for their work. This is to encourage artists to climb the arbitrary, vaguely defined tier ladder by working on promotion, following trends etc. Redbubble has announced they’re changing to a tiered system where the lowest account tier has a large portion of their profits taken away.
